Thaipography: A Visual Journey

We were approached by Tim Sumner to produce this great little book based around a visual journey across the Kingdom of Thailand, which resulted in Tim creating a beautiful new typeface inspired by the images he captured.

Produced at a size of 90x150mm, in a limited edition run of 100 copies (hand numbered by Tim), the books have a Colorplan Scarlet Dust Jacket featuring Foilco 6055 metallic red, with inner cover and text pages on Munken Smooth Lynx Natural White. The centre of the book features a tipped-in section, printed digital white ink on Curious Metallic Super Gold 120gsm.

Sections were then collated, folded and sewn in to create a easy opening, beautifully finished book. Tim describes his inspiration: “Thaipography is a publication embarking on a visual journey across the Kingdom of Thailand. Illustrating an eclectic collection of typographic forms, produced on a great variety of different materials, found in their natural environment.

Capturing these images became a daily obsession during my time in the country. I began to notice these objects, which are usually overlooked as banal elements of everyday life. This book and the accompanying typeface were conceived as a way to showcase this pictorial archive and allow everyone else to gain a fresh perspective and appreciation for ‘Thaipography’”.
